One Final Test Away From Ethereum Merge: No More Delays? Is Ethereum finally ready to merge? The anticipation is building as Ethereum is one step away from the merge, and that final step is just days away. The Goerli/Prater testnet deployment represents the last hurdle, the final test to be completed prior to Ethereum’s monumental shift to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

During the final test, the Goerli testnet will merge with its associated beacon chain, Prater, a beacon chain that has been running since December 2025 (well, not quite December 2025, but you get the idea!), and will retain the Goerli name. This crucial event is being closely monitored by the entire crypto community.

Ethereum developers report that the final tests before the protocol’s transition to proof-of-stake are going well. This is excellent news after previous setbacks. The Ethereum mainnet is only one testnet Merge away from becoming a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain. The years-long quest has come to an end with the… well, *almost* an end.

Remember the talk of delays? The long-awaited Ethereum Merge isn't set for yet another delay. Unlike earlier rumors suggested by some sources quoting developers working on the upgrade estimating a completion time a “few months after” June, current progress suggests the merge is imminent after Goerli/Prater's success.

The top smart contract blockchain completed its Sepolia testnet for “the Merge” Wednesday, bringing the network another step closer to its long-awaited transition to Proof-of-Stake. This successful Sepolia test paved the way for the upcoming Goerli/Prater merge.

So, what triggers this historic event? In order to stop PoW, Ethereum developers have limited terminal total difficulty. The Merge will happen when the last hash in PoW is… well, when the terminal total difficulty is reached. This transition will mark the definitive end of Proof-of-Work on the Ethereum network and usher in a new era of Proof-of-Stake.
