OpenAI Plans to Answer Concerns from Italian Authorities That Led to ChatGPT Ban
ChatGPT producer OpenAI plans to present measures on Thursday to remedy concerns that led to an Italian ban on the chatbot last week, Italy's data protection agency announced. Once again, OpenAI finds itself under intense scrutiny from the Italian data protection authority, Garante Per La Protezione Dei Dati Personali (Garante), after its popular chatbot was blocked.
The research firm behind the viral chatbot, OpenAI, is planning to answer concerns from Italian authorities that led to a countrywide ban on ChatGPT. Specifically, OpenAI has been told it’s suspected of violating European Union privacy, following a multi-month investigation of its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, by Italy’s data protection agency.
The Italian data protection authority, known as Garante, last week blocked San Francisco-based OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ordering it to temporarily stop processing data from Italian users. The goal is to demonstrate how OpenAI plans to address the concerns raised and ensure compliance with EU privacy regulations moving forward. Will these measures be enough to lift the ChatGPT ban in Italy? Stay tuned for updates.
